Worst hosting experience - Stay away from Fasthosts

For the last five years, I have been hosting my website with Fasthosts. However, recently they seem to have taken a drastic turn over their customer service policies as well as billing practices. A couple of months ago, I lost my credit card. In the meantime, my hosting account with fasthosts became due for payment and they try to bill my stolen credit card which was on file with them. When the transaction failed, they tried to bill my credit card for £23 labeling the transaction as debt recovery fee. Seeing this, I started sending them e-mails asking them to cancel my account or give me a refund for the money they had charged me. I had already paid in advance for this hosting service for the last 12 months, did not use it at all and didn't want it anymore. However, they seemed to bother least about it and said that I had to pay without getting any refunds. In an attempt to make me happy, they offered three months of free hosting service. They also told me that they had been sending me reminder emails concerning my credit card. However despite my attempts to make them believe that I didn't receive any of them, they did not believe me. A couple of months later, I was about to discover a yet another shock. Fasthosts automatically renewed two of my domains that were to expire approximately after one month. They took the payment out of my credit card. I kept yelling that I did not receive any email notifying me of that, but they refused and said that they had sent me emails. There was no way of getting a refund once again even though the domains had been renewed more than one month before their expiry. To sum up with, I would advise you to be really really careful about the renewal of your hosting accounts as well as domains with fasthosts. Unless you have explicitly opted out of automatic renewal, they are sure to charge your credit card. And in case your credit card information is outdated, you will be charged a penalty fee. And you simply have no way of knowing that an automatic renewal would take place since you don't get any reminder emails. Once your credit card has been charged by fasthosts, there is absolutely little hope of getting any refunds. As for me, I have decided never to go with fasthosts again in my life and would advise anyone thinking of signing up with them to just stay clear.
